    I am a graphic designer (currently still studying) and soon I am gonna switch from Windows to Mac. Many years I did completely identify with being a Windows user but the more I dug deeper intonthe graphic design world the more I became fan of using Mac. The main reason is that I everytime I see a design on a Mac I feel like it is really there. The poster is there, perfectly sharp and with true colors if it was already printed. Whereas, on my windows laptop I do not feel that way. The poster looks like "hidden" behind or filtered through a wall of pixels so to speak due to the lack of resolution. In graphic design it is a different if a line has 1pt or 0.5pt. Also fonts in 12pt look weird in "only" 1080p.

    This is an interesting topic. I am a 55-year-old Senior Graphic Designer for a large corporation and also a freelance Graphic Designer. I never felt my age was a concern. Remember, clients or prospective employers are looking for experts in the industry and have a fantastic portfolio to prove it. If you claim or represent yourself as an expert, the employers will have a hint that what you are claiming is true. Don't think about your age; think about how you present yourself; after all, you are in the field of persuasion and deliverables.

    I am a 53 year old woman that just graduated with my BFA in Graphic Design and self teaching in illustration and painting. I refuse to let this ageist world label me and hold me down. I keep up with current trends and styles and I know the history of art and design. If us "older" people are not allowed to retire until we are 62 then you're going to have to let us work until then! PERIOD> Also, remember this, if you are young now, you WILL be older soon. Don't be ageist. You'll only be hurting your future self. We are all human beings with feelings and aspirations. Love is the answer. The mindset that older people cannot adapt to technology as quickly as the younger generation is such an ageist way of thinking. It's such a lie. I can run circles around many people in the tech world. Don't judge people by how they look. You don't judge people by the color of their skin or by their sex, so don't judge us by the number of lines on our faces and we wont judge you for your lack of experience lines. You are me and I am you.

    I'm confused though because the width of the columns in the blue is 74 (not a multiple of 8), making the card a size thats not a multiple of 8. I'm new to UI so I think I'm missing something

      @KaYungCalebLai 4 місяці тому

      the width of the grid will also be changing based on the display size. So the content itself doesn't have to be a multiple of 8. We do try to keep the padding/margin sizing to match the 8px rule tho.

    This is my personal opinion but I think "fake" projects are very helpful.. Maybe other designers can tell they are fake but clients can't. And of course you should try to find real clients but you need more pieces to build a portfolio. Choosing your best "fake" projects can help to fill some gaps.

      Have you tried using chat GPT to come up with design project brief? Give it an app idea prompt and it’ll generate a pretty detailed spec doc for an MVP with user persona and stuff. If you can back your fake project with research I think it’ll work!

    GReat video!!! Thanks you for sharing your knowledge! So basically it's good to know both as a designer, I take it.

    Graphic Design definitely should be in anyone's skill set. Mentor and Internship are probably the hardest steps. It really depends on the person. Are they really necessary in this day and age?

      Not necessary, I didn't hire a mentor myself. But I do get a lot of experience working with people in a team setting. So finding a job/internship is still important.
